Reconciliation & Holy Communion (Grade 2)
First and foremost, the most important part of our Catholic faith is faithful attendance at Mass and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Hearing God’s word, becoming part of the Parish community and receiving Jesus in the Eucharist makes up who we are as Catholics. Without the Eucharist, we go hungry.
As such, children are prepared for their First Holy Communion by first receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Reconciliation is received in the Second Grade, with children required to attend Faith Formation classes conducted for the First and Second Grade, successfully complete a Reconciliation book and attend a Saturday morning retreat. The sacrament is received two months before receiving First Holy Communion.
First Holy Communion is also received in the Second Grade. Children are required to have received Reconciliation, attend Faith Formation classes conducted for the First and Second Grade, successfully complete a Holy Communion Book, attend a Saturday morning retreat and attend Mass on a regular basis.
