SPRED (Special Religious Development) is a ministry for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Using the teaching method developed by Fr. Jean Mesny in Chicago in the 1960’s, our SPRED center brings individuals into communion with Christ and the church. This program recognizes the dignity and value of every person, using daily life experiences to teach spiritual truths. Our goal is to build relationships within our community and with God, so that individuals can sense His presence in their lives and experience Christ’s love and mercy through the sacraments.
Bimonthly classes are held Sunday mornings with a 1:1 ratio between student and catechist. Catechists meet separately before each SPRED session to plan sessions and pray for our SPRED community members. At St. Philip Neri, our SPRED program started in January 2015 and it is growing. We would be delighted to have more catechists and students to join our wonderful ministry. For more information about the SPRED program in Chicago, visit www.spred-chicago.org.
